Personal project - Oakville Transit

OVERVIEW

I created a Oakville Transit app for my kid, as an experimental project, When she was complaining that the  transit app was not functional and doesn't show the information correctly, many a time the bus is full and they have to wait for the next bus in rain and sun. Due to this she and her friends miss the bus, as they have to sit in the school library for the next bus to arrive.

That triggered me to build an Oakville Transit app using Claude code and published so She can use it.

THE PROCESS

I started exploring different vibe code tools, like Cursor, Google Stitch, Loveable and Claude code. Out of all I really liked the Claude code as it gave me more flexibility in building

With my research and following some of the industry mentors, I picked up Claude Code + Superbase + Github.

And started building it one weekend.

THE APPROACH

I knew the problem I was solving for the user. So I started collecting more information where need.

I also periodically, tested the app usability with my kid and added features that works for her.  

​

The features that is most important for teenagers.

​

- Quickly access to the app

- Find where the bus is.

- Find out if that bus has running on time.

- Find if the bus has crowded or not. 

- Get SMS notification on bus approach.

THE OUTCOME, MVP-1

Launched an interactive app and runs on Apple home server. Here, you can easily search for bus routes in your area using our open-source map. Simply enter your location, and discover the best transit options available to you. It also shows the occupancy volume. Navigate with confidence and convenience!
