ROCHE: Service Provider Oversight Application 

2 Week Design Sprint

I was the only Product designer supporting 2 pods within this product team.

My Role: Interaction Designer and UX Researcher

THE OVERVIEW

A legacy application that was missing a digital process and was disconnected from other applications. The new application is designed to convert the paper application to a digital application and reduce the toggle between the applications

THE CHALLENGE

Since the legacy application and too many different processes in different countries and departments, it required one process that can be used across Roche with less training. No user log that I can use to understand the user. The product owner was the source of understanding the user behavior.

RESEARCH & PLANNING

With a fairly detailed project brief in hand, and was onboarded in the project after the first MVP was launched. I created a in-depth heuristic evaluation of the current production system and  I first started a focus group session to get an idea of the common pain points experienced by real users and the factors that influence their decision-making process around the new application.

Engaged the users with data collection exercises, Card sorting, understanding the user mental model, and Process maps where different users perform their tasks.  User feedback on the first MVP screens was not what they expected and training time took too long..

DESIGNING THE EXPERIENCE

After the user research, it was time to put it the study into practics. I had meeting with the developers and Salesforce architects to understand the technological challenges and how to improve and harmonize the design with other applications within Roche.

Daily huddles with the business analyst and Product owner to understand the new requirements and validate the design with the SMEs. Working around to solve the technological challenges of out-of-the-box vs customization components. Creating early prototypes and validating them with the SMEs and users to find out any gaps and process changes if required.

 

Analyze the potential of the Lightning design system and how to improve the flow of the application by utilizing the hidden features that were not been used. Salesforce Einstein's next best action proposal is to improve the system's ability to think and act on behalf of the user to reduce human errors.

WIREFRAMES

To validate the design before it goes to sign-off and development. I used to validate the artifacts with the actual user either by simulating the mockups. 

Analyze A-B testing.

Plan solutions for tactical or strategic releases according to technology or time constraints.

Present the Usability test results report to the Stakeholders and project team.  

Allocated time for a demo to developers on the UI feasibility check. Fine-tune the UI and if required validate again with the users. Setup war room sessions with the Developers

Sprint Planning session with the development and QA.

HANDOFF

After the design mocks were validated with the users and business, it was time to prepare a handoff to the salesforce developers and QAs.

 

All the mocks in the Figma were tagged with the user stories and marked as "Read for Development". So the developers can use the code from the Figma design tool.

UAT, PILOT TESTING TO PRODUCTION

My work didn't end on the handoff of the design. I played a key role in UAT and Pilot testing UX elements. Coordinate with the training team for training materials / Walkme / gSite.

RECOGNITION & ACHIEVEMENTS
  1. Improved the main navigations by removing multiple tabs opening.

  2. Improved search functionality and time lag to fetch data.

  3. Removed unwanted processes and introduced new processes where human errors can be avoided.

  4. Introduced stepper UI for keeping the user engaged.

  5. Introduced a modal window instead of a new browser window.

  6. Harmonized and Gamification design approach.

OTHER PROJECT WITH ROCHE 
  1. SL Lab testing:  Redesign a lab application that works across different continents and onboard two group of users who can start using SL lab to work more efficiently and more harmonized way. Ask me more
     

  2. Clinical trial Research: Improve user engagement to take clinical testing regularly  Ask me more
     

  3. Meeting Management system:  Create a new application to allow Roche employees to book a meeting room easily and improve the process so that the user doesn't have to go through different applications to manage the room and its services. Ask me more
     

  4. Data Visualization: Created Data visualization dashboards for the Executives to see the Good Clinical Process without any criticality pointers. Ask me more
     

  5. Data Scientist Toolkit: Worked with a group of Data scientists to develop an internal application that will help them to collaborate with the other data scientists in the organization.
